Plastic particles were found in nearly 80% of people tested in a new study.

Researchers found the highest amount of PET (plastic code #1) which is commonly used in drinking bottles, as well as packaging for many cleaning and personal care products. The long-term impact on human health is unknown, but researchers are concerned as these particles can lodge into organs and microplastics have been shown to cause damage to human cells in the laboratory.

The best thing we can do is avoid plastic products that could leach into our food and beverages, and reduce single-use plastic consumption as it can contribute to microplastic pollution.
